Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has partnered with the Asia Foundation in Sri Lanka to donate a wide range of books to the Kalutara Bodhi Gnana Library. This was part of SLT’s continuous support to country’s educational institutions and its youth, to build capabilities.
Speaking at the event, Ajitha De Zoysa, Chairman of the Kalutara Bodhi Trust said: “I would like to thank SLT and the Asia Foundation for providing us with a generous donation of books. As we are all aware, having strong skills in English is important, especially with the re-introduction of English as a medium of instruction. This donation will help school children in the area to have access to a wide range of books, helping them to develop their literary skills.
Anton Nallathamby, Director, Books for Asia Programme also speaking at the event said: “We are proud to equip the Kalutara Bodhi Gnana Library with quality books that will help the students in Kalutara to be well versed in English. I would also like to thank SLT for being an active partner in the programme.”
Deshabandu Indradasa Hettiarachchi, Former District Minister, representatives from SLT, teachers and students from schools in the area participated at the event.
Saman Abeysekara, Deputy General Manager, Western Province South/SLT also speaking at the event said: “The partnership between SLT and the Asia Foundation has been immensely fruitful, with the donation of books being an invaluable service for the school children of Kalutara. We are proud to be a part of a programme that helps in the development of the future generation, especially in their academic pursuits.”
