Sri Lanka Telecom recently announced a move towards next generation architecture through an integrated infrastructure facilitating SLT’s global business and new converged services. SLT recently signed an agreement with Ericsson to migrate its International Switching System to an Internet Protocol (IP) based switching platform. After the migration, SLT will be able to offer carrier-class IP services on international switching by using Ericsson’s Telephony Soft-switch Solution.
Ericsson will deliver, implement and integrate Telephony Soft-switch and Media Gateways for SLT. The solution also supports SLT’s offering of competitive international telephony services as well as enabling the company to interconnect using international standards of IP and SIP protocols.
The agreement strengthens SLT’s capabilities of providing next generation network services on its domestic and international state-of-the-art IP backbone. It also takes the company a step further in its transition from a traditional network service provider to a fully-fledged solutions provider. This initiative will accelerate business convergences amongst fixed, internet and mobile businesses in SLT’s global business.
