Encompassing a career of over 35 years, Mali Piyasena, former Director, Sri Lanka Customs launched Reguwa Saha Mama. The book was launched at the Public Library Auditorium, where photographs and replica depicted the raids conducted by Customs officers spearheaded by Mali Piyasena.
Chief Guest, Mahinda Deshapriya, Elections Commissioner, commended the perseverance and courage of Mali Piyasena in conducting raids. Also in attendance were Sarath Jayatilleka, former Director-General, Sri Lanka Customs, Jagath P Wijeweera, former Director-General, Sri Lanka Customs, Ven Maligawila Assaji Thero, directors and officers of Sri Lanka Customs.
One of the first books that recount the experience of a Customs officer, the book was praised by Sarath Jayatilleka. “I haven’t previously read a comprehensive book that details the experiences of a customs officer and also discusses the investigative process before the raids,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Jagath P Wijeweera also commended Mali Piyasena who had penned down memories of his career.
“[Custom officers] must be aware of the movements of everyone to notice suspicious behaviour,” said Mali Piyasena, who spoke of his experiences.
