Dialog Axiata has announced the launch of the IAX (India Asia Xpress) submarine cable system. This significant investment is designed to strengthen Sri Lanka’s international network and ensure the country’s digital infrastructure is futureproof. As a result, Dialog’s total investments in international connectivity infrastructure have exceeded USD 100 million. This milestone was reached through collaborative efforts with a consortium of regional telecommunications partners and global hyperscalers, led by Reliance Jio. This initiative highlights Dialog’s commitment to forming strategic alliances that foster technological advancement and innovation.
The IAX cable system significantly improves Sri Lanka’s global connectivity by delivering high-speed, high-capacity bandwidth, which meets the increasing demands of 5G, AI, and other data-intensive applications. Built with advanced technology, the IAX cable integrates smoothly with Dialog’s existing subsea infrastructure, ensuring scalable and efficient data transmission between major global content hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, and Singapore. This development further establishes Sri Lanka as a key player in the region’s digital transformation. To commemorate this milestone, Dialog held a launch event at the IAX Submarine Cable Landing Station in Matara. Distinguished guests included Badli Hisham Adam, High Commissioner of Malaysia; Harvinder Singh, Consul General of India; Vivek Sood, Group CEO/ MD of Axiata Group; and Supun Weerasinghe, Director/ Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata along with other representatives from Dialog. The IAX cable enhances Sri Lanka’s digital infrastructure by providing greater resilience and redundancy. It complements the existing BBG and MSC systems, improving network reliability and reducing risks of failures. Dialog’s Cable Landing Stations in Matara and Mount Lavinia ensure seamless connectivity, offering a more secure digital experience for both businesses and consumers.
