‘Pranajeewa’ written by Jagath Wellawaththa, Senior lecturer – University of Colombo, a well known political critic, was launched recently. This novel is written based on the socio-political background of Sri Lanka during the period of 1980 – 1990. Youth awakening, the Government’s reaction towards them and the expansion of Tamil Tiger terrorism were the highlights of the above mentioned period. The book shows the crucial effects of those social phenomenas on human relationships. While the first copy of the book was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a copy was presented to Basil Rajapaksa, Minister – Economic Development who was the Chief Guest at the launch. Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities and Lakshman Hulugalle, Director General – Media Centre for National Security, and various other parliamentarians and distinguished invitees were also present at the occasion. A panel discussion regarding the novel was conducted during the launch comprising of Dhamma Dissanayake, Professor Ranjith Bandara, Upul Shantha Sannasgala, Basil Rajapaksa, Minister – Economic Development, Dr Praneeth Abeysundara and Keerthi Welisarage.
