SLT-MOBITEL launched TechNovation 2025 as an ESG-led initiative, aligned with the brand’s Co-Connec- tion philosophy.
This initiative is designed to tackle urgent national issues through cutting-edge technological advancements. The ideathon also supports the company’s broader vision of leveraging technology for sustainable development and positive social impact.
The program received over 50 entries from university student innovators representing 10 universities from various regions, including Jaffna, Colombo, Kandy, and Oluvil. The competition progressed through multiple stages, where 15 teams were shortlisted to advance to the semi-finals, ultimately leading to the final selection of the top contenders. The top eight teams then competed in the final showdown.
Team Zurazen from the University of Moratuwa emerged victorious with their innovative e-waste management application.
Team Spark Squad secured the runner-up position with their automated water odor removal solution, while Team Spam Bytes claimed the second runner-up spot with ‘Suwadiviya,’ an all-in-one medical platform. Empowered by additional funding, Team Zurazen will work to turn their visionary concept into a fully realized solution. The culminating event took place at the SLT-MOBITEL Headquarters.
The competition challenged participants to develop innovations in four key areas: e-Waste Management, Marine Conservation, Human-Elephant Conflict Mitigation, and an Open Idea category focused on community issues, including solutions for differently-abled individuals. SLT-MOBITEL firmly believes in empowering Sri Lanka’s young talent. By providing university students with opportunities to address real-world challenges, the initiative aims to cultivate a generation of innovators who will drive national progress through technology.
