People’s Bank inaugurated the newly renovated Vincent Subasinghe Memorial Hostel of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, reaffirming its commitment to education and community development through its flagship Mahajana Mehewara corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The renovation, which cost more than 11 million rupees, enhances the living conditions for medical undergraduates and ensures that future generations benefit from improved facilities.
The ceremony was graced by Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairman, People’s Bank, Clive Fonseka, CEO/GM, members of the Bank’s corporate and executive management, University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Prof. Indika Karunathilake, Dean, Faculty of Medicine Prof. Vajira H.W. Dissanayake, Chief Warden Prof. Sudharshani Wasalathanthri, along with staff members and students.
Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairman of People’s Bank, stated that: “We are proud to have undertaken this renovation project. The hostel, originally built by People’s Bank in 1996, provided an important solution to student accommodation needs.
Through such CSR initiatives, we will continue to support education and community development.”
“We are deeply grateful to People’s Bank for this generous contribution. Generations of medical students have lived in this hostel, and the renovation ensures that future students will also benefit from improved facilities, ” said Prof. Vajira H.W. Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.
