People’s Bank inaugurated its new head office building, People’s Tower, at Dr. Colvin R. de Silva Mawatha, Colombo 2, under the patronage of Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Central Bank Governor, and Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma.
Marking a significant milestone in its 64-year history, the new headquarters reflects the Bank’s continued commitment to national development and economic progress. It symbolizes both institutional growth and the broader advancement of Sri Lanka’s financial sector, while strengthening the Bank’s foundation for future expansion.
The 22-storey building, with three basement levels, has been constructed in line with the Green Building concept, aligning with People’s Bank’s environmental sustainability policy. It houses a fully equipped auditorium, a documentation unit, a cafeteria, a medical centre, multiple conference rooms, and other modern facilities designed to enhance operational efficiency.
The premises also accommodate the People’s Bank Staff Training College, and the Union Place Branch has been established within the building to provide customers with advanced digital banking services.
A special commemorative cover and stamp, issued by the Department of Posts to mark the opening, were also unveiled at the event.
The previous head office, located at Sir Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo 2, was inaugurated in 1977. The new headquarters, opened decades later, stands as a symbol of the Bank’s strength, innovation, and pride as a state-owned financial institution serving the people of Sri Lanka.
The ceremonial opening was attended by Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairman, People’s Bank, Clive Fonseka, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, members of the Board of Directors, the Corporate and Executive Management team, special guests, customers, and staff.
