People’s Bank has pledged a donation of 300 million rupees to the Government’s Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund to support a multi-story housing project in the Nuwara Eliya District. The initiative aims to resettle families displaced by Cyclone Ditwah and the landslides of November 2025.
The contribution coincides with the Bank’s 65th anniversary and is part of its Mahaja-na Mehewara Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, reflecting its commitment to community development and sustainability. The symbolic cheque was handed over by Clive Fonseka, CEO/GM, and Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairman, to Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, in the presence of Nalaka Wijayawardana, Head of Marketing, People’s Bank.
Led by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Water Supply, the project will provide a permanent housing solution through three multi-story residential blocks comprising 120 units. The development will also include essential infrastructure such as roads, parking, wastewater treatment, and solar-powered lighting, along with community facilities like a health center, day-care center, and commercial spaces. Each block is expected to be completed within six months, with the State Engineering Corporation overseeing design and consultancy.
