In December, Tokyo Cement crossed the one million metric ton milestone, a first by a Sri Lanka cement manufacturing company. By this, Tokyo Cement established itself as the market leader in manufacturing and marketing of cement. The company’s relentless quest for perfection and insistence on the highest quality standards has earned them the praise of both clients and competitors. Tokyo Cement is also conscious of the environment and its sustainability. As such they have embarked on another landmark project, investing in clean energy. A bio mass power plant of 10 megawatt capacity of an investment of USD 8.5 mn has never been embarked in the country. The company is also setting up another ready mixed cement plant in Kurunegala. In 2006/2007 Tokyo Cement will set up a new vertical roller mill, the latest in cement grinding technology, from Germany at a cost of USD 11 mn bring the total forecasted investment by the end of March 2007 to USD 87mn. This is the highest ever in the cement industry in Sri Lanka.
