Richard Murcott, a young Sri Lankan entrepreneur based in the Maldives, became the ‘Win a Million Summer Bonanza’ grand winner, a special summer promotion organised by Alpha Orient Lanka Limited (AOLL) along with HSBC.
“Every time I come back to Sri Lanka, I visit the Alpha Orient duty free shop. I happily used my HSBC credit card in participating in this promotion. A few weeks later, when the Alpha Marketing Manager gave me the exciting news over the phone, I thought a friend was trying to pull my leg as my birthday was just around the corner. For someone who has not even won ten rupees through the lottery, one million rupees was too good to be true,” the grand winner said, as he accepted the winning cheque.
The summer promotion, ‘Win a Million Summer Bonanza’ invited Bandaranaike International Airport passengers to spend USD 65 or more at arrivals or USD 75 or more at departures AOLL duty free shops to win an array of prizes. Customers who paid through HSBC credit cards enjoyed two additional winning opportunities than a normal customer. During the entire promotion period, a daily winner was selected through scratch cards and up to Rs 10,000 of his/her duty free bill was wiped out. In addition, 15 consolation prizes were also given to winners. All prize winners were entered into the mega draw.
