Vilasnee Tampoe, the daughter of Robin Tampoe a legendary filmmaker of Sri Lankan cinema launched her book on her celebrated father’s life on 29 December 2008. ‘Last of the Big Ones’ by Vilasnee Tampoe was launched, in commemoration of the 78th Birth Anniversary of Robin Tampoe amidst a host of distinguished guests. Last of the Big Ones celebrates the life of Robin Tampoe, a veteran filmmaker of Sri Lankan Cinema. Sumitra Peries, Dr. Tissa Abeysekara and Dr. D.B. Nihalsingha were special guests at the launching ceremony. Robin Tampoe who entered the Sri Lankan cinema in its infancy was a major contributor to its growth. Speaking at the launching ceremony Dr D B Nihalsinghe commented on Robin Tampoe’s massive contribution to the film production industry and claimed that Robin Tampoe was a “driving force at a time when the whole industry pivoted on such individual drive.
