Bank of Ceylon (BOC), reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, launched a beach cleanup initiative at Palangathure Beach in Negombo. The program was organized by BOC’s Sustainable Banking Unit in collaboration with several government institutions, environmental organizations, educational institutions, and private sector partners. The initiative brought together school children, volunteers, members of the local community, and representatives from organizations including the Negombo Divisional Secre-tariat and Municipal Council, Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Re-source Management, Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), Office of the Chief Public Health Inspector Negombo, Sri Lanka Air Force, Sri Lanka Police, Hotel Owners’ Association, Ocean University of Sri Lanka, Harischandra National School, Ernst & Young (EY), and Biodiversity Sri Lanka. Representing BOC, Y. A. Jayathilaka, GM/CEO; R. M. N. Jeewantha, COO; members of the corporate and executive management; and branch staff actively participated in the cleanup, demonstrating the Bank’s collective commitment to protecting the environment. The initiative forms part of BOC’s broader efforts to contribute towards the long-term conservation of Sri Lanka’s coastline and promote greater environmental responsibility among communities. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, the program also highlighted the importance of collaboration in protecting coastal ecosystems and maintaining cleaner public spaces. BOC expressed its appreciation to all participating institutions, volunteers, students, and community members whose collective efforts contributed to the successful implementation of the initiative.
