Prabhath Chandrakeerthi, newly appointed Commissioner General of Labor assumed responsibility in his new post at a special ceremony organized at the Department of Labor in Narahenpita. He is the 23rd Commissioner General of the Department. He accepted his appointment following religious observances held at his office. Among the distinguished invitees present to welcome the new Commissioner General were Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Labor and Mapa Pathirana, Secretary, Ministry of Labor. A graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenapura and the University of Kelaniya, the new Commissioner General is also an Attorney-at-Law and has a Master’s degree in Economics A member of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service for past 20 years, he began his career as a cadet at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Ad- ministration. He has also served in differ- ent capacities in State institu- tions, as Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Education – Uva Province, Senior Assistant Secretary Parliament, Assistant Divisional Secretary, Biyagama DS Office and prior to his new appointment he was Director General of the Department of Coastal Conservation and Coastal Resource Management
