Colombo Rider, the newest locally assembled bus was launched to the market recently. The local partners for this multinational project are the Ceylinco Group which holds of Cevmo Automobile Manufacturers. Itoeho of Japan, the major share holders of Sathosa Motors, controls 44% and Optare of England the remaining
The design for the bus is from Optare. Spares and other engine components are imported from Malasiya. A capital infusion of Rs 150 million has been channeled to this BOI venture. The plant situated at Seeduwa has monthly assembly capacity of 10 buses which
is expected to rise to 15, shortly. Ceymo has plans of marketing the Colombo Rider overseas with the help of their foreign collaborators. With this in mind Leyland Exports, UK, have been appointed the official African distributor for the Colombo Rider.
