The Commercial Bank of Ceylon recently hosted a special program for the residents of Cheshire Home for the differently-abled. This program was organized by the Corporate Social Responsibility Trust of the Bank to commemorate of World Disable Week. Nineteen differently-abled individuals were brought to the bank’s Reid Avenue branch for an inspirational program of entertainment and motivational talks to help them cope better. “It is important for us to recognize that everyone is different and has different abilities. We as a society cannot let the talents and abilities of these people go unused simply because they are differently-abled;’ says Dr Shelton Wanasinghe, Trustee of the bank’s CSR Trust. The highlight of the program was the performance by the musicians from the Sri Lanka Council for the Blind. According to Priyanthi Perera, Manageress of Commercial Bank’s Reid Avenue branch, the thinking behind organizing the event at that particular branch was because they have several facilities to assist the disabled such as ramps at the ATM machine and special washrooms. This program concluded with the presentation of gifts to the differently-abled and a session of Christmas carols.
