Marking the commencement of its operational activities in the New Year, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) held a special function at its Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) with the initiative of Dr Priyath Bandu Wickrama – Chairman of SLPA.
Dr Priyath Bandu Wickrama stated that it is a privilege to implement the 3-year plan in SLPA to effectively face the oncoming challenges of the global economic crisis. He also said that all employees and staff of SLPA should work with mutual understanding and team spirit to achieve the ambitious goals to develop SLPA. He added that the return of mega global shipping lines such as APL to SLPA is a great achievement in the process of winning and attracting customers to SLPA. Recently, another two well-known shipping lines, Emirates & Zim/Gold Star also entered into exclusive TSAs to work with SLPA for the oncoming period.
As another step in the implementation of the 3-year plan to develop SLPA, computerising the financial accounts of the Finance Division of SLPA was also launched at the New Year and that would be highly beneficial for the financial administration of SLPA. Thus, the old ledger system is modified enabling them to obtain documents instantly as an automated computer processed report. Through the new system it is also expected to make the financial process of SLPA more systematic, directly effecting the elevation of the efficiency at SLPA. All these innovative steps taken to upgrade the existing facilities at SLPA, carried out under the supervision and guidance of Minister of Ports, Aviation, Irrigation & Water Management Chamal Rajapaksa has enabled SLPA to bring all its maritime related services to a better and higher standard in the port sector.
