Vision Care Academy celebrated its 2025 graduating class at a Convocation Ceremony, honoring achievements in optometry, ophthalmic assistance, dispensing optics, and audiometry. The event brought together distinguished guests, academics, and industry leaders. Chief Guest Emeritus Professor Rohan W. Jayasekara delivered an inspiring address on the importance of advanced education and innovation in healthcare.
The guests of Honor included Vidya Jyothi, Professor Vajira H.W. Dissanayake, Dean, Chair, and Senior Professor of Anatomy, Department of Anatomy, Genetics and Biomedical Informatics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Dr. Kusum Rathnayaka, Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and external eye diseases and President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka. They shared valuable insights on the evolving demands of the eye and hearing healthcare sectors and emphasized the vital role of continued learning in improving patient outcomes.
Professor Madhuwanthi Dissanayake, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Professor in Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. Special Guests included Dr. Upali Mendis, Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Advisor to Vision Care Academy; Professor Dilanthi Herath, Head, Department of Allied Health Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Pooja R anasinghe, Facult y Member, Department of Optometry, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; and Dr. Ganga Thennakoon from the Post-graduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka, who also serves as a Senior Visiting Lecturer at Vision Care Academy.
This year’s graduating students from Vision Care Academy included those from various programs: Diploma in Optometry, Diploma in Orthoptics, Certificates in Ophthalmic Assistance, Audiometry, and Dispensing Optics, as well as graduates of the Bausch and Lomb Contact Lens Mastermind Program. The ceremony featured an oath-taking where graduates committed to upholding high ethical standards in their fields. Vidya Jayarathna, Head of Vision Care Academy, praised the graduates’ achievements and the facul-ty’s dedication, highlighting their potential impact in eye and hearing care locally and internationally.
