The Sri Lanka Rubber Manufacturing and Export Corporation Ltd., (SLRMC), has launched an extended latex collection programme to support the rubber smallholders in the prime rubber growing areas in Sri Lanka. More than 6000 rubber small holder units are served by SLRMC in these areas.
As part of this programme SLRMC has handed over its factories with six trucks fitted with 1500 gallon capacity tanks to these rubber smallholder units. The SLRMC also proposes to export more rubber to the Gulf region and Hong Kong. Already, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), has been signed with Zhushou Tyre Factory, China, to start a joint venture tyre factory in Sri Lanka. The total investment of the project is USS 10 million and this 100% export-oriented project is expected to create about 800 new direct employment jobs within the factory, according to SLRMC.
