Secretary of Defence – Gotabhaya Rajapaksa presented the first Mobitel Identification Certificate (MIC) to the Director General Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka – Priyantha Kariyapperuma in the presence of Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel – Leisha De Silva Chandrasena at a ceremony held recently.
Mobitel carried out its all encompassing subscriber registration system supported by an MMS based innovative solution, making the best use of its full-fledged 3G /2.5G GSM network while saving large quantities of paper and photo chemicals that would have been unnecessarily used otherwise, in a sincere gesture towards preserving a green environment. Mobitel Identification Certificate (MIC) contains details such as customer name, mobile number, Serial number of the SIM card, National Identity Card number and a recently taken photograph of the registered customer, and the company is currently in the process of mailing out over a million MIC’s to its already registered base. Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka Priyantha Kariyapperuma said
“Upholding National Security is of utmost importance and I wish to commend Mobitel for its commitment in fulfilling this national and civic obligation.”
