People’s Wave, the mobile banking app of People’s Bank was adjudged the best mobile banking app in Sri Lanka by The Asian Banker. The app won two country awards for Best Digital Brand Initiative, Application or Program award and for Best Mobile Initiative, Application or Program award.
The Asian Banker and its International Council of Advisors followed a rigorous independent evaluation process of Sri Lankan banks that covered areas such as financial performance, corporate and strategic leadership, retail financial services, transaction finance, risk management and financial technology, and their impact on the local market.
Ranjith Kodituwakku, the Deputy General Manager – Commercial Banking and Digi-tization, People’s Bank stated, “The People’s Wave mobile banking app is just one compo-nent of the digital transforma-tion spearheaded by the leader-ship and board of directors. It’s significant that People’s Bank, as a state-owned enterprise, is taking the lead and committed to digital transformation in banking.” People’s Wave offers clients more than 50 different banking transactions, which can be conducted on a smartphone. People’s Wave is available on Google Play Store and Apple’s iStore. Clients will be able to perform banking transactions anytime, anywhere.
“People’s Bank is at your fingertips,” said Buddhikka Seelanatha, Head of Application Systems (AGM-IT), People’s Bank. “There’s no need to waste time or spend money on trave-ling to a bank. People’s Wave allows customers to conduct their banking transactions at home, office or even on the go”. People’s Wave app launched in 2018 has over 350,000 users. The app accounts for 300,000 transactions on average each month with the total monthly transaction value averaging five billion rupees.
