The first bank in Sri Lanka, which began the country’s financial history in 1832, was officially established in 1972 as the National Savings Bank by merging the then-existing savings-related financial institutions. The National Savings Bank celebrated its proud 54th anniversary at its Head Office in Kollupitiya.
Giving priority to religious observances, the ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Harsha Cabral PC., Chairman of the National Savings Bank, with the participation of Rohana Bandara Weerakoon, General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, Senior Deputy General Managers K. Ravindran and Devika Silva, top management, and staff.

The Chairman of the National Savings Bank, Dr. Harsha Cabral PC., addressing the event, thanked the customers who have placed their trust in the National Savings Bank for 54 years, and the staff who have worked tirelessly for the achievements and dividends achieved by the National Savings Bank.
He said that in the coming years, he hopes to make people’s daily banking activities easier and to provide attractive services through new offerings. He further stated that he firmly believes that his staff has the strength and courage to never waver in the face of challenges, and that it is his intention to see them continue to break all barriers in the future, providing efficient service to their clients and adding pride to the bank.

Rohana Bandara Weerakoon, General Manager/CEO, NSB, explained the digital services the National Savings Bank has recently implemented, stating that it always strives to provide the highest level of service to its clients. He also thanked the staff, both present and past, who have dedicated their efforts to the achievements of the National Savings Bank as a state bank, and said that through those dedications, the National Savings Bank will be able to rise to the top in the future.
