The foundation stone for the construction of Maalu Maalu Resorts and Spas was laid by Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development in Passekudah, as an effort to promote eco-tourism in the Eastern Province.The Resort is the brainchild of Chandra Wickramasinghe, Chairman of Maalu Maalu Resorts and Spas and Connaissance de Ceylan, and an investment of Rs 250 million has been made for this resort. Due to be opened in June 2011, this will be constructed as a traditional fishing village.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, Deputy Minister of Resettlement, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, Chief Minister of Eastern Province, Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism, Mohan Wijewickrema, Governor of Eastern Province and Chandra Wickramasinghe were present during the occasion.
