Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN) celebrated its 30th anniversary celebrations. The event was graced by the President Maithripala Sirisena as Chief Guest.
Prof P S M Gunarathna, Chairman, LEARN and Vice Chairman, University of Grants Commission said, “LEARN has continuously been providing a reliable system of connectivity in the Sri Lankan academic and research community. Facilitating and enhancing the capacity for the interconnection of the similar networks of the world while continuously upgrading network infrastructure and keeping up with the rapid development in the field of information and communication technology.”
Prof Abhaya Induruwa, Founder, LEARN delivering the keynote speech stated that, “LEARN was conceptualized by the idea of an experimental National Data Communication network in Sri Lanka, to connect computers in all universities in Sri Lanka.” He also spoke about the journey and future aspirations of the organization.
At the ceremony, President Maithripala Sirisena felicitated key personnel who elevated the organization and established it as the National Research and Education Network (NREN).
