Lanka Bell, the first private fixed telecom operator to launch CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology in Sri Lanka announced it had sold its 00,000th CDMA line to D M Jayasundera of the Bandarawela branch. To celebrate this landmark achievement, the management of Lanka Bell gifted both the CDMA phone and connection to Jayasundera free of charge.
The Sri Lankan public’s response to CDMA connectivity has been overwhelming, especially in the outstation areas. Not only are we able to connect the rural masses with modern fixed wireless telephony, but also with fax, email and internet, CU, per second billing, call forwarding, call waiting, free IDD enabled, speaker phone, three way conferencing facilities, etc/ said Suren Goonewardene, Managing Director, Lanka Bell. The company has also gone on record as being the first-ever operator to give “blanket CDMA coverage” to the Colombo and Greater Colombo areas, and to connect the entire Tsunami-ravaged South.
