By launching its International SMS Lanka Bell has become the first CDMA fixed line operator in the island to introduce such a facility.
As an introductory offer, International SMS was available totally free to all its CDMA subscribers from 23 December 2005 to 2 January 2006. In addition, all subscribers could call within their area for 20 cents a minute and anywhere in Sri Lanka for 60 cents a minute on Christmas and New Year’s days.
Furthermore, calls to Australia, Italy, Canada, UK, USA, India, Cyprus, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE last month were given at the lowest possible rates.
“Revolutionary CDMA telephony has opened a whole new world to rural Sri Lanka with affordable rates. Given the growing demand for rapid international communication, I am confident that our new International SMS facility will be a success with our subscribers,” said Suren Goonewardene, Managing Director, Lanka Bell.
