Eagle Insurance Company was hailed one of the ten Best Corporate Citizens in Sri Lanka by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce for the second successive year. Eagle vied with leading corporates for the award given to organizations, which promote and practice ethically and socially responsible behavior and are currently practicing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Among the most recent CSR initiatives undertaken by Eagle was the sponsorship of the awareness creation of the Colombo Municipal Council program – ‘Emergency Rescue 110′ – which provided free 24-hour ambulance service for the city of Colombo. Other CSR activities undertaken by the company encompass the environment, community and industrial safety, education scholarships, etc. The company also emerged winner of three awards at the Annual Report Awards 2005. One was for the Best Annual Report & Accounts in the Insurance Sector category – an award which has been won by the company for 12 successive years. Eagle also became the first runner up for overall.
Best Corporate Governance Disclosure as well as the third runner up for overall Best CSR Reporting. “The company’s statement of accounts have clearly and consistently been in compliance with statutory requirements and best accounting practice standards,” commented a company spokesman, referring to Eagle’s ability to win the coveted award year after year. “Winning these awards signifies Eagle’s lasting tribute to prudence, professionalism and the company’s firm commitment to achieving excellence in the insurance sphere.”
