The Commercial Bank of Ceylon opened its Kilinochchi Branch to extend its services to the population of this region.
The branch was declared open by Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Government Agent – Kilinochchi, senior military officials and leading business people of the area were also present at the opening.
Kilinochchi was Commercial Bank’s 178th branch. It provides the full complement of services although it is housed in a converted container.
All over-the-counter services including opening of current, savings and fixed deposit accounts, collection of inward remittances (e-Exchange, MoneyGram), issue and encashment of travellers’ cheques and foreign currency notes, personal loans, leasing, micro finance and other credit facilities are available at this branch, the Bank said.
“In addition to Kilinochchi, this branch would be serving the people living even in distant locations such as Mankulam, Mallavi, Pooneryn, Paranthan, Dharmapuram, Vishwamadu, Kanagarayakulum, Puliyankulum and Mullaitivu who will now have the opportunity to experience the quick and convenient service of the Best Bank in Sri Lanka for the first time,” said S Sanjeev, the Manager of the branch.
He added that, in the past people of this area using the services of Commercial Bank had to travel all the way to either Vavuniya or to the Jaffna Peninsula. With the opening of the Kilinochchi branch, these customers will have very easy access to Commercial Bank’s services. He also said that plans are underway to relocate the branch at a much bigger permanent building in the near future.
The Kilinochchi branch is linked to all other Commercial Bank branches and supermarket banking counters islandwide.
