This will facilitate and open up further opportunities to have similar forums in Sri Lanka, expanding Sri Lanka’s exposure and its technological developments to the world.
What is the significance of this event?
As the telecommunication technology roadmap is globally moving towards the Next Generation Networks (NGN) based architecture, it is the right time for all the Sri Lankan operators and regulators to align with the same. Most of the new core networks in today’s market are IP based with layered architecture and hence NGN compatible.
Both fixed and mobile operators in Sri Lanka are now contemplating on Fixed-Mobile Con-vergence (FMC). In the long term, FMC can be facilitated, by having NGN based core network architecture. Because of “All IP Layered Architecture,” NGN enables fast, linear and smooth network growth consistently, both in terms of investment and adoption of new technologies such as IMS, HSPA+, LTE, 4G etc.
What are the objectives of this forum?
There are several objectives in this forum. First of all, it will enable discussions on the chal-lenges in adopting NGN in Sri Lanka such as managing the transitions in an environment where there is a significant presence of the industry stakeholders in adopting NGN in Sri Lanka while discussing the opportunities and benefits faced by industry stake holders.
This forum will also assist in advancing the knowledge and understanding the global trends in NGN adoption and developments. This would also immensely help in setting standards for future developments in Sri Lanka.
What impact does this have on the future of telecommunication in Sri Lanka?
In line with what is discussed above, this event may be considered as an eye -opener for all the stakeholders in the Telecommunication Industry in Sri Lanka on NGN.
This can also be viewed as an opportunity for the domestic telecommunication industry personnel to interact and share experience with the delegates and participants from other countries.
This will facilitate and open up further opportunities to have similar forums in Sri Lanka, expanding Sri Lanka’s exposure and its technological developments to the world.
