Asian Alliance Insurance was the sponsor of the Junior Chess Championship, organized by the Galle District Chess Association. The last two days of the Tournament were held recently at Hotel Deutsche Lanka in Akurana.
The Association has been organizing and promoting Chess in the Galle District since 1969 and Asian Alliance has been sponsoring this tournament for the past two years. The highlight of the Chess calendar of the Association is the Galle District Premier Championship, which is a Round Robin Tournament at which the players compete with each other. The tournament is divided into Junior and Senior segments. The current Men’s and Women’s Sri Lanka Champions are from the Galle District and were past competitors at this tournament.
