Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe laid the foundation stone for the ultra-modern tyre plant in the BOI Industrial Zone, Wagawatta, Horana. The ceremony was conducted on the guidance of President Maithripala Sirisena. Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Finance, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training and Naveen Dissanayake, Minister of Plantation Industries were also present at the event.

Rigid Tyre Corporation says the 11.25-billion-rupee venture by the Ceylon Steel Group, is tipped to be the largest fully integrated manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka. It will be equipped with proven European manufacturing technology with a small and clean carbon footprint from the reputed Marangoni of Italy. The plant is also expected to create over 3,000 job opportunities, both indirectly and directly. Rigid Tyre Corporation revealed blue-chip professionals who will be employed at the factory will be exposed to ultramodern technology and technical know-how. The company added this would make them sought after professionals across the world.
They added such high calibre employment generation will aid the country in accelerating growth with social inclusion.
