A member of the Siam City Cement Public Company, INSEE Cement Sri Lanka is the only fully integrated cement manufacturer in the country. An environmentally-conscious company that promotes green initiatives, INSEE Cement released its sustainability report for the year 2018.
I NSEE Cement launched the first Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) based sustainability report published by the company – ‘Building a Sustainable Nation.’ The externally assured Sustainability Report showcases the continuous efforts of INSEE cement to improve its triple bottom line performance for the financial year of 2018. Its contents adhere to the internationally recognized GRI, conforming to the requirements of the core option of its standards and principles as relating to sustainability.

He also revealed INSEE Group’s investments in expansion, modernization, R&D facilities, and environmental performance improvements, which amounts to 47 million USD since investing in the Sri Lankan acquisition. He expanded on the Zero Harm policy adopted by the company, which reflects its commitment to health and safety. “We will remain fully committed to enriching and empowering the lives of the communities that we serve today as well as in the future,” Ekanayake said. “We stand firm on our corporate pillars. These include, credibility – linked to our long heritage and consistently high-quality products that are the most preferred and trusted brands of cement in the country, such as Sanstha and Mahaweli Marine Plus. Then, responsibility – linked to our environmental conservation journey toward a lower-carbon future. INSEE Cement additionally hosted a compelling discussion panel under the topic of Building a Sustainable Nation. Savithri Rodrigo moderated the discussion and the panel comprised: Nandana Ekanayake, Chairman/ CEO, INSEE Cement Sri Lanka, Sudashini Christopher, Company Communications and Reputation Manager,

INSEE Cement Sri Lanka; Dr A Mallawatantri, Country Representative of International Union for Conservation of Nature (ICUN); Prof Ranjith Dissanayake, Senior Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Peradeniya and Chairman, Green Building Council of Sri Lanka; Jan Kunigk, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Innovation of INSEE Cement Sri Lanka; Shiranee Yasaratna, Advisor – Secretariat of Biodiversity Sri Lanka; together with Sanjeewa Chulakumara, Director, INSEE Ecocycle.
A broad range of topics, including an overview of INSEE Cement’s continuous commitment to building a sustainable nation, the value of sustainable construction focusing on green manufacturing, the sustainable product innovations of the company as well as INSEE Cement’s contribution to the nation’s industrial waste management were given prominence during the discussion.
The speakers also directed the audience’s attention to the Government and private sectors’ endeavors and contributions towards a sustainable development goal.
