Mobitel signed and exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding with the GSMA APAC IoT Partnership Program at the Smart City Summit and Expo event in Taipei, Taiwan. The GSMA APAC IoT Program represents the largest IoT community in the region, with over 500 partners including mobile operators, consultants, developers, manufacturers, system integrators and vertical solution providers, amongst others and is set to grow to over 2,000 partners by 2020.
“The Asia Pacific region has been quick to embrace IoT technologies with mobile operators working closely with their partners to drive its further expansion,” said Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific, GSMA. “This program is designed to support the development of IoT by creating a regional IoT community that facilitates collaboration and knowledge sharing, benefitting both the supply chain and their customers.”
This partnership empowers Mobitel, as the National Mobile Service Provider, to reinforce innovations in the area of IoT through a dedicated IoT Lab located at Trace City Colombo.
Mobitel introduced Narrowband IoT in 2017 for the first time in Sri Lanka and created a developer community, which continues to be active and working on various IoT solutions. Mobitel’s goal is to enable the target population to access enterprise solutions that would help them increase their efficiency, productivity and reengineer processes.
