Mobitel powered up the Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2019 for the sixth time at Stein Studios. This year’s Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka event was a conducted online. The Mobitel Innovation Center team ar- ranged an exciting line up for the Mobitel Google I/O 2019 Extended. Google I/O Extended, held since 2013 in Sri Lanka, is an interactive overnight event Mobitel treats tech enthusiasts with Google I/O Extended Sri Lanka 2019 with a live stream of the keynote from USA focused on the next generation of technology, mo- bile and beyond and local pre- senter sessions on various tech, entrepreneurship, and innova- tion. The event was streamed on YouTube, Facebook Channels and PEO TV. This year’s ses- sions focused on 5G, tech for a greener future, to Island Men- tality Vs Startup Mentality, an Panel discussion on 5G being moderated by Shamil Appathurai, Senior Manager – Network Strategy and Transformation, Network Planning and Operations, Mobitel with panelists Yuan Fan, 5G Expert, Huawei; Dr Tharaka Samarasinghe, Senior Lecturer, University of Moratuwa; Major General Renuka Rowel, Director General Research and Development, Sri Lanka Army; and Dr Harinda Vidanage, Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies. informative panel discussion with eminent individuals in the Sri Lankan startup eco-system. “Sri Lankan Whizz-Kids”, an interesting panel discussion with teenagers of Generation Z was a spotlight of the event. The session “Your Gateway to the Digital World” demonstrated the new digital services plat- form of Mobitel, “mSpace”. Google I/O is an annual devel- oper conference held by Google in USA. In parallel to the main event, Google I/O Extended events help developers from around the world take part in the I/O experience through live streaming by bringing local developer communities to- gether to experience the I/O keynote and sessions with one another in real time, around the globe.
