People’s Bank has partnered with Lanka Securities (LSL) to integrate share trading functionality into its flagship mobile wallet app, People’s Pay, becoming the first in Sri Lanka to offer banking and equity trading services through a single digital platform.
The official launch was attended by Chandana Guniyangoda, Chairman, People’s Bank; Senior Professor D.B.P.H. Hareendra Dissabandara, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka; Clive Fonseka, Chief Executive Officer/General Manager, People’s Bank; Dimuthu Abeyesekera, Chairman, Colombo Stock Exchange; Kosala Gamage, Managing Director, Lanka Securities; and other distinguished officials.
Through this integration, People’s Pay users can transfer funds between bank accounts and Central Depository System (CDS) accounts, open new CDS accounts, view investment portfolios alongside bank balances, and manage equity transactions through the app.
Chandana Guniyangoda emphasized that the initiative supports the government’s digitalization drive while advancing financial inclusion and Sri Lanka’s digital economy. Clive Fonseka highlighted that the partnership strengthens the Bank’s commitment to providing convenient, integrated financial solutions that empower customers. Kosala Gamage stated that the collaboration combines the strengths of both institutions to improve accessibility, transparency, and investment opportunities.
The integration provides customers with direct access to the Colombo Stock Exchange, portfolio diversification opportunities, and greater convenience in managing investments.
Supported by Lanka Securities’ trading platform and research capabilities and People’s Bank’s extensive digital reach, the partnership also creates opportunities for future innovations, including investment products, financial literacy tools, and real-time portfolio management features, further strengthening Sri Lanka’s evolving digital financial ecosystem.
