HNB has been named Sri Lanka’s Best Bank for Large Corporates at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, marking the second time the Bank has received this recognition. The award reinforces HNB’s position as the trusted financial partner for Sri Lanka’s leading conglomerates, exporters, multinational corporations, and infrastructure developers.
During the review period, HNB played a key role in several landmark transactions, including participation in the USD one billion sustainability-linked syndicated financing for Aster Chemicals and Energy’s acquisition of Shell’s refinery in Singapore, cross-border acquisition financing involving Surge Global and Calcey Technologies, and the arrangement of the 44.5 billion rupees syndicated financing for the 350MW Sobadhanavi power project, one of Sri Lanka’s largest project financing initiatives.
Damith Pallewatte, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, HNB, said the recognition reflects the Bank’s commitment to empowering businesses through innovative financial solutions, sector expertise, and long-term partnerships. HNB’s strengths were demonstrated through its transaction banking franchise, supported by a network of over 900 correspondent banks, a digital banking platform serving more than 6,000 corporate customers, and continued investments in digital onboarding, trade digitization, and cash management. HNB has expanded cross-border lending relationships across India, East Africa, and the Middle East, strengthening its support for Sri Lankan corporates pursuing international growth. HNB was ranked number two in Sri Lanka by Business Today in its Top 40 Businesses ranking for 2024-25.
