People’s Bank partnered with the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development to introduce a digital ticketing solution for Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses, supporting the Government’s drive for innovative digital services under the Ministry of Digital Economy.
The initiative was launched at the Makumbura Multimodal Centre in Kottawa with the participation of SLTB Chairman Sajeewa Kanakaratne, People’s Bank Head of Marketing Nalaka Wijayawardana, and Sumudu Rathnayake, Adviser to the Ministry of Digital Economy. The system allows passengers to purchase bus tickets using bank cards, eliminating cash transactions while improving efficiency, convenience, and transparency. Passengers can pay the exact fare without additional charges.
Initially implemented as a pilot on selected routes, including Makumbura–Galle and Makumbura–Embilipitiya, the system will be further refined based on feedback, reflecting People’s Bank’s commitment to digital financial solutions and a modern public transport system.
