Seylan Bank announced the appointment of Lakshman Silva as an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors with effect from July 18, 2022. No stranger to the banking industry, Silva is well-known for his invaluable service leading DFCC Bank and its subsidiaries for over three decades. He also served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Banks’ Association, guiding the banking community, through challenging times in 2020/21.
Beginning his professional career in the Department of Inland Revenue, Silva made his career defining move to the DFCC Banking Group in 1987. With more than a decade of banking experience he was then seconded to DFCC Vardhana Bank where he served as CEO/Executive Director until 2015. He returned to DFCC Bank as Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Director in 2015, followed by his appointment as Director/CEO of DFCC Bank in 2017, a position he held until his retirement from the Bank in 2021.
Silva also held the position of Chairman of DFCC Consulting and Synapsys, both subsidiary companies of DFCC Banking Group. He also served as Chairman of Lanka Financial Services Bureau Limited, Sri Lanka Banks’ Association, Acuity Partners, Lanka Ventures and LVL Energy Fund. In addition, he was a Director of Lanka Clear. At present Silva is the Chairman of Lanka Industrial Estates and Panasian Power and its subsidiary companies.
A former member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) and Board of Management of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Silva currently serves as a member of the Stakeholder Engagement Committee of the CBSL and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member and Past President of the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka.
Silva is an alumnus of the University of Kelaniya where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce (Sp.) Degree and holds an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenepura.
