Equipped with the worlds latest diagnostic technologies, Lanka Hospital’s new Medical Reference Laboratory was opened ceremonially in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The laboratory has nine departments namely, Hematology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Flow Cytometry, Cytogenetics, Histopatology, Immunology, Liquid Based Cytology, and Bio Chemistry. There are six pathologists who will inspect and be in charge of the unit on full time basis. Another unique feature of this diagnostic lab is that it performs a daily calibration of all instruments to maintain their
high quality and professionalism. Dr Wimal Karandagoda, CEO, Lanka Hospital Diagnostics expressed, “we will be in a position to offer over 300 new tests which are not offered by any other laboratory in Sri Lanka thus far. This will eliminate the need for sending samples for testing overseas, thereby significantly reducing the medical expenses currently incurred by
patients. Moreover, we have more than 250 sample collection centres
Island-wide. We are confident that the new reference lab will offer never before convenience for both doctors and
patients.”
The laboratory also offers the facility for patients to logon to the Lanka Hospital Diagostics website and obtain their laboratory reports instead of having to come to the hospital or the sample collection centre.
