Shashi Kandambi, General Manager/CEO of NSB, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while K. Ravindran, Senior Deputy General Manager; Nalika Wijesinghe, Assistant General Manager (Operations); Regional Manager, Suranga Baduge, and the Branch Managers of Gampaha and Kadawatha Branches, Alahakoon Bandara and Chandani Peiris, respectively, were also present at the event.
The National Savings Bank (NSB) felicitated the students who achieved the best marks in the island, in grade five Scholarship Examination 2023, with Hapan Scholarship Awards.
For over 20 years, NSB has been conducting the Hapan Scholarship Awards Program annually to felicitate the students who excel in the grade five Scholarship Examination. Under the program, all students, who pass the Examination and are Hapan Savings Account holders of the Bank, are rewarded at branch level, and the students who score the highest marks in the country are recognized at a national level ceremony.
Prior to the Examination, NSB organizes a series of seminars, during which books of model papers are offered as a support and guide in preparation for the exam. All activities are conducted within the approved guidelines.

A G A Dinuja Shenul Akmeemana of Sumedha College, Gampaha, W A Hirusha Keshan Wijesinghe of Gothami Vidyalaya, Gampaha, W Hevindu Hasarel Perera of Mahabellana Primary School, Alubomulla and G Nawanga Hansaraj Fonseka of St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura were offered Hapan Scholarships Awards at the occasion.
These young scholars have demonstrated a remarkable academic excellence, and NSB is committed to supporting their educational journey. The Hapan Scholarships Awards not only acknowledge their current achievements but also encourage their continued success in future.
NSB works closely with children, encouraging them to excel in all areas. In addition to promoting the habit of saving, NSB recently introduced a special gift scheme for the students in preschools and primary grades. Furthermore, NSB has launched a project named, “English is Simple,” in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
