The Havelock City development project unveiled its revised development plan. Designed on 17 acres of prime land within Colombo city, the Havelock City is built in phases with the residential component comprising of four phases of two apartment towers each and the commercial component comprising of 400,000 sq ft shopping mall with two office towers, in a single phase. The initial residential phase, comprising of 226 apartments on 22 levels is already completed. Addressing the gathering S P Tao, Chairman, Overseas Realty (Ceylon) said, “The peace that we now experience and the strong and stable government providing the leadership fast tracking the development of the country is a strong signal that the time is most appropriate for us to realise our property development potential in Sri Lanka and to be ready. Thus, Havelock City is our primary focus. What we see now is a tremendous opportunity for urbanisation of cities which will naturally add fillip to our real estate business.”
Dr Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister of International Monetary Cooperation said, “this is what Sri Lanka needs, a vision that is translated into reality. Today, as we embark on a new era for Sri Lanka, where everything from stability, security, leadership and governance has fallen into place, we need visionary investors to follow. The fact that he came into Sri Lanka when we were still fighting a war and has remained in Sri Lanka throughout is yet another sign of his confidence in this country. Havelock City, as I see it, will not simply be a landmark for Colombo but rather a landmark that signifies that Sri Lanka is ready to be a contender for the hub status of this region’.
ECADI (East China Architectural Design and Research Institute), architects for the Havelock City project highlighted that, one of the most significant features of the residential development is the roof garden, describing the six-acre garden, a quarter of which has already been completed along with the Park and Elibank Towers of Phase one.
