Stoma Clinic Extension and the new wing of the Gastroenterology Clinic at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children were ceremonially opened.
The stoma care clinic is affiliated with the gastroenterology unit of the hospital. Both teams form Sri Lanka’s first and only pediatric stoma clinic and pediatric gastroenterology unit. Originally established in August 2019, the clinic has over 680 registered pediatric patients and has catered to over 5000 visits. The clinic, handled by R L Chandraleka (Nursing in Charge – Stoma Care Clinic), was observed to have a severe shortage of space to keep up with patient volumes.
Last year, Prof. Sharman Rajeendranath (Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist) sought assistance in developing a new wing within the hospital premises to enhance patient care and provide improved comfort.
The development project, which spanned ten months, was funded by ‘Steuart Senehasa,’ of George Steuart, while the Sri Lanka Navy provided labor.
The new wing was declared open by a clinic patient under the patronage of Dr. G Wijesooriya, Director, LRH; Prof. Sharman Rajeendranath; Dilith Jayaweera, Group Chairman, George Steuart & Company; and Eran Ranasinghe, Managing Director – George Steuart Health.
