The Classique Centre, a financial services facility built by People’s Leasing & Finance (PLC), was designed and constructed with a focus on green building, showcasing a remarkable fusion of product innovation and sustainable transformation. Its incorporation of sustainability and smart technology has earned it the distinction of being Sri Lanka’s first EDGE-Certified Green Building, an acronym for “Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies.” EDGE is a green building standard, a free software, and an international green building certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.
PLC, under the visionary roadmap for sustainable finance and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives established by Shamindra Marcelline, former CEO embarked on the journey to achieve EDGE Certification for the Classique Centre. Co-energi, an independent specialist provider of sustainable and resource-efficient designs in building engineering services, provided the expertise and guidance required to achieve this certification. EDGE Certification requires a minimum projected reduction of 20 percent in energy use, water use, and embodied energy in materials when compared to standard local buildings, setting a benchmark for sustainable building practices in emerging markets. This certification empowers organizations to adopt sustainable building practices in a fast, easy, and affordable manner.
