The Sri Lankan shoreline that extends over 1,700km with diverse coastal destinations and beautiful beaches, need to be protected. At current, around 1,500 unauthorized properties have been identified.
Therefore, the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management has taken stringent steps to bring into control of such activities. Most of the unauthorized development properties that have identified were: residential, hotel and housing projects.
The management has taken strict steps to help the environment by rectifying such projects in future and by ensuring that it will not be initiated further. This is a keen focus on eradicating pollution and soil erosion in the coastal areas.
