The sixth National Safety Award ceremony was held recently with Athauda Seneviratne, Minister of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment, gracing the event as chief guest. It was evolved and is sponsored by Eagle.
The competition is conducted in three categories – Large, Medium and Small. The All Island Winner in the Large Scale category was Ceylon Petroleum Corporation – Refinery Division; the Medium Scale category winner was Premium Exports Ceylon, Ceytea and winner of the Small Scale category was Glaxo Wellcome Ceylon.
The runner-up in the All Island Large Scale category was Ceylon Tobacco Company; the runner-up of the Medium Scale category was Shell Gas Lanka, Shell Central Filling Station, Sapugaskanda and the runner-up of the Small Scale category was BASF Finlay. There were seventeen Sectoral Award winners and six Provincial Award winners.
Three judges who have served in the panel of judges from inception, S Sivapaskaran, former Deputy Commissioner of Labour and Chief Factories Inspecting Officer;
V M Karunaratne, former Deputy Commissioner of Labour and Chief factories Inspecting Officer and Chula de Silva, Consultant Risk Manager, were recognised and awarded with certificates for their 12-year dedication and contribution towards the success of the National Safety Award.
