The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) recently opened its first diagnostic laboratory and a call centre at its branch at Town Hall.
Both the lab and call centre were ceremonially opened by Nimal Siripala De Silva, the Minister of Health and Nutrition.
Speaking at the event Minister De Silva congratulated the SPC for venturing into this new field but said it should constantly strive to maintain the highest quality standards, while offering these services to the public at a reasonable price.
The diagnostic laboratory will initially serve as a back up for Ministry of Health hospitals but will be open to the public shortly. The lab can perform over 100 tests, including blood, sugar and urine tests as well as lipid profiles. Patients can be assured of quality as all tests will be conducted by specialists and reports will be ready within four hours, the SPC said.
The SPC will also operate a 24-hour call centre where members of the public can request any information they require on medicines. The call centre can be contacted on (11)266 5665.
