Organisation Mondiale Coiffure (OMC) Asia Cup Open 2010, will be held in Sri Lanka this March. The event, organised by the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians (SLAHAB) will be held at the Cinnamon Grand on March 7 and 8, 2010. This occasion will bring together the professionals of the hair dressing industry from all over the world. Over 15 countries will be participating in the competition. Japan, South Korea, Philippines, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia and Malaysia will send in their teams.
The competition will consist of ladies and gents hairdressing as well as stage make up, fantasy hairstyles and nails. Providing space for the younger generation of the industry to showcase their skills and talents, a junior category is also open where participants under the age of 25 can compete.
According to Nayana Karunaratne, President of OMC, Asia Zone, recognising the extensive talent which is emerging from the Asian region, OMC has even taken steps to make the competition more viable for participants by making participation more economical friendly. “This year, the OMC Committee has allowed the usage of mannequins for creations instead of live models. Using a live model for the competition is quite expensive. However, now the participants are able to use mannequins hence participation becomes much more practical,” she added.
The event will be open for competitors as well as observers. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the local participants as they’re given the chance to participate in a globally recognised competition at a minimal cost and do not have to spend on travelling to another country.”
She also goes on to say, “We are granting access for everyone for almost no-cost. Even the knowledge that the observers would gain in these two days of activities is invaluable.”
