Graham Ward, President of the International Federation of Accountants IFAC), will be in Sri Lanka in January at the invitation of lndrajith Fernando, President of the
lnstitute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL).
His visit to Sri Lanka comes in the wake of several new initiatives undertaken by IFAC to assist developing countries and to further support quality performance by accountants worldwide.
These initiatives include a new guide titled ‘Establishing and Developing a Professional Accountancy Body’ released in recognition of the role the accountancy profession plays in contributing to the development of national economies. Best practice guidance and information on membership requirement, relations with government and regulators, standard setting, education and training, etc are also detailed in this guide. Graham Ward will meet with corporate sector CEOs, CFOs, other accounting professionals, and regulatory authorities for discussion on a range of issues and the new initiatives during his four-day visit.
