Sri Lanka Telecom Group extended its contribution to- wards national development by expanding its services under the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ Dis- trict development project, which commenced with the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. Several large-scale ICT projects and a large number of other ini- tiatives serving the District of Polonnaruwa were vested in the public with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena, P G Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Group Chairman, SLT and other SLT officials including Kiththi Perera, Chief Executive Officer and Priyantha Fernandez, Chief Operations Officer.
Sri Lanka Telecom and its mobile arm Mobitel, have al- located 2,500 million rupees to complete over 14 ICT projects for the benefit of residents in the Polonnaruwa District. Some of the ICT initiatives the company has implemented under this project include the innovation of the Regional Telecom Office with cutting edge technology, urban and rural communication development projects in the district, provision for 5G technology to the ‘Deepa Uyana’ under the Polonnaruwa Smart City project, 4G-850 broadband project, provision for broadband services to over 100 schools under the ‘Smart School’ project, and the Rural Broadband Project.
SLT established 17 service units by investing 450,000 rupees, with the objective of developing the ICT infrastructure to ensure continuous ser- vice availability for the public. These ICT projects received praise from President Sirisena for its impact in developing and expanding ICT solutions for the benefit of rural communities in Sri Lanka.
