Sri Lanka will reach another milestone in air travel when international giant British Airways switches its equipment from DC- 10 to Boeing 777, on the 28th of this month.
The Boeing 277 236 series which is just being introduced to Sri Lanka is a wide-bodied twin jet aircraft with an advanced ‘fly-by- wire’ flying control system. British Airways which boasts of 15 B-777 aircraft in its fleet emphasizes that this change will not deprive BA travelers of the many facilities they have so far enjoyed. The 3 class configuration i.e. World Traveler, Club World and First will remain but with several added advantages.
Yet another change in BA’s schedule is the change of the London airport from Gatwick to Heathrow which will add to passenger convenience considering its vicinity to London. Fast Track through emigration formalities and hot showers in the arrivals lounge will be available to First and World Class BA Travelers prior to departure from the terminal whilst a Sri Lankan ‘Meet & Greet’ service manned by BA staff fluent in Sinhala and Tamil will be set up in Heathrow’s Terminal 4 to further assist passengers.
A spokesman for British Air- ways said that the airline has managed to stay ahead in the midst of stiff competition from both global competitors and niche operators mainly due to their on going process of researching new services and products, new approaches in service and working for passengers. Company sources said that it is their ability to anticipate customer needs, blend with several different cultures and adapt to changing times is what has earned them the tag “The World’s Favorite Airline’.
